Comano Terme e Stenico _ Environmental redevelopment of the Duina and Fiume Sarca

The project/Masterplan aims to identify suitable strategies to redevelop the area of the Torrente Duina and the River Sarca from an environmental and landscape perspective in the sections where the two waterways cross the town of Ponte Arche.
The area’s vocation is tourism, linked to spa treatments. Despite its deep connection with water, the town has always overlooked the Trento-Tione road axis, marginalising the role of the River, seen as a source of danger for the settlement rather than as an environmental landscape potential to be enhanced.
In recent years, the changed environmental sensitivity has led to a progressive re-evaluation of the role of the River in the future development of settlements along the banks, both as a possible theatre of new permanent or temporary activities to be set up along the courses, and as an attractive element to promote individual well-being.
For this purpose, a discussion table was opened with the competent bodies and stakeholders, to evaluate the compatibility of the proposed solutions with the needs of protection of the town and study the potential for future development of the tourist accommodation activity.
This approach will allow us to reclaim not only the view of the River, but also the surrounding areas, equipping new areas for sports, leisure, relaxation and events and increasing not only the tourist offer of the area but also the benefits for the inhabitants.
Ponte Arche therefore becomes a new attraction in which, in addition to the spa proposal, numerous other activities are added capable of making the waterways and adjacent areas a “multi-experiential park”, a sort of connective tissue capable of systematizing the existing excellences with the new activities that can be established.
