Il Prato del Duomo di San Miniato _ landscape and environmental redevelopment project

The settlement of San Miniato is one of the historic villages of medieval origin that follow one another to the south of the alluvial plain of the Arno. It is configured as a village that follows the curvilinear trend of the contour lines that shape the hill on which it stands.
The city is part of those hilly territories that contrast with the densely urbanized Arno Valley. These historic villages retain their original landscape characteristics, largely recognizable in the settlement network that still follows the ancient spatial organization, both in the road networks and in the dimensions.
The project concerns the redevelopment and enhancement of the Prato del Duomo, a fascinating place by virtue of the specific features that distinguish it from the other public spaces of San Miniato. The area already has notable landscape qualities. What the project intends to pursue is therefore the valorization of the space in relation to the urban context, intervening on the recomposition of the planimetric layout and reconstructing an identity of the area that enhances its specificities, while maintaining a recognizable coherence with the context, as regards materials, colors, surface treatment.
